Practise the long diagonal pass that breaks a compact block. Players in midfield receive, set, and switch the point of attack from one flank to the other.
• Scan before receiving — know where the switch is going
• Lock the ankle, strike with the laces for a long driven pass
• Receiver on the far wing takes a positive first touch into space
• Body shape: open up to face the field, not the touchline
• The switch is only valuable if it arrives before the defence can shuffle
Progression: add two defenders in the midfield zone to apply pressure. Demand the switch reaches the far winger within 4 seconds.
Regression: shorter switch distance, no pressure, walk through the pattern first.
